A guest speaker came to our ESL class yesterday. He told us to teach our children to use 9-1-1 in an emergency. He gave us some rules to teach our children:
  1. If there is a fire, children must get out of the house or apartment. They can phone 9-1-1 from the neighbours’ house.
  2. It is better for children to call 9-1-1 from a house phone, not a cell phone.
  3. Children should speak slowly and clearly to the 9-1-1 telephone operator.
  4. Children must listen to the 9-1-1 operator and answer all of the questions the operator asks.
  5. Children must not hang up the phone until the operator tells them to.
